Funding Need
In Texas, public charter schools receive roughly $1,700 less per pupil than that of their traditional public school counterparts. As a result of strong advocacy by Great Hearts and other charter school parents, the Texas Legislature granted $60 million in facilities funding for eligible charter schools for the 2018/2019 school year. This is approximately $200 more in per student funding, enough we hope to cover inflation and rising construction costs. There is no guarantee of this funding beyond this school year, and this is the first year in our history that we have received funding for facilities.
In turn, a financial gap of $2,000,000 exists and must be filled in order to build the gym for Great Hearts Irving permanent campus. Once the fundraising goal is met and the campus is fully enrolled, the financial model will be sustainable on public funds and annual parent giving through Community Investment (CI).
The gym will be a separate building including a basketball court, volleyball court, catering kitchen, performance stage, bleachers, locker rooms and more. It will also serve as the academy’s cafeteria.
Mustang families, businesses and foundations are invited to invest in the future of Great-Hearted students. For pledge opportunities, commemorative naming rights, and sponsorships, contact Jessica Smith-Perry, Senior Director of Advancement via email or at 210.867.2212.
