Each year, the end of our school year brings with it the promotion of another class of fifth graders to Sixth Grade and the Upper School. This is a monumental accomplishment for our students, and we could not be prouder of the work they have done. To mark this momentous occasion, we are honored to host a very special Promotion Ceremony and Banquet for our Fifth Grade scholars.

When and Where

This year, we are delighted that our Promotion and Sorting Ceremony and Banquet will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville. We strongly encourage all current fifth graders and their parents to attend this important milestone in your child’s academic life.

Banquet Dinner

Dinner will be an Italian buffet including a chopped Caesar salad, buttered pasta, herb marinated grilled chicken, garlic basil marinara, sautéed vegetable mélange, and assorted cookies for dessert.

Order of Ceremonies

Following dinner, students will be sorted into their respective Upper School houses. Representatives from the Upper School, including Headmasters Mr. Kreigh Knerr and Dr. Amber Dyer, will be present to welcome them. The ceremony will also include a poetry recitation, a recognition of our prefects, the traditional performance of our school song by our students, and a goodly amount of other pomp and circumstance.

To cover the cost of the dinner and venue,
admission is $22/person.

All tickets must be purchased by 5pm on Tuesday, May 14th.

Student Attire

Such a notable occasion also calls for an elevated degree of formality. We ask that our Fifth Grade students come to the event dressed in more formal attire. We will use the standard School Concert Dress Code described below (also found on page 101 of the Lower School Family Handbook):

• Boys: Black or dark dress pants with a white button-up dress shirt, black or dark belt, black or dark necktie, and black or dark dress shoes.
• Girls: Black or dark, modest-length dress or skirt with a white blouse/top, and black or dark dress shoes, dress sandals, or ballet flats.

Reception at Pop Factory

To give all our fifth graders an opportunity to visit and celebrate their promotion together, we will be hosting an informal reception for Fifth Grade families at Pop Factory adjacent to Toyota Music Factory in Las Colinas from 4 to 6pm on Wednesday, May 22nd.

House Shirts

Fifth Graders who have just been sorted into their Upper School house will be able to purchase their new House shirt! House shirts will be on sale for $10 following the Promotion Ceremony. Please bring check or cash.

We eagerly look forward to celebrating our Fifth Grade students as they matriculate to a new year, a new grade level, a new school, and the next stage of their journey at Great Hearts Irving.
