The Great Hearts Irving Lower School is expanding our classrooms outside by establishing a garden for each grade level.  Students and their families have the opportunity to cultivate flowers and vegetables on Labor Day and provide a hands-on learning opportunity.

Under the guidance of Paula Ferguson, Campus Testing Coordinator and Master of the Dirt, each grade level’s bed requires lots of work before we can begin planting. That is where we need your help!

On Labor Day, let’s get our hands dirty, use our tools, and understand the importance of preparation so our gardens will flourish.

Space is limited.  Four families per grade level will help with our gardening project. We have created a Sign Up Genius so families can find a time that works best for their family and so that we can be sure to practice social distancing by limiting the number of families who arrive at the same time.

How You Can Help with Our Garden

  • Safety precautions will be observed.  Masks will be worn.  There is space between each grade level bed to prevent crowding, and the Sign Up Genius will limit the number of families working simultaneously.
  • Each family should bring their own gardening tools.
  • Water will be provided.
  • Each grade level will need certain plants and supplies. The list is on the Sign Up Genius. Please help with the purchase of grade level supplies.
