Field Day 2021
At Great Hearts Irving, we believe that a holistic and humane education is one that seeks to cultivate health and strength not only in the mind and heart, but also in the body. Last year we regretted not being able to have Field Day, but we are preparing to make up for it with this year’s Field Day celebration on March 26. Coach Hess and Coach Ortiz have been working diligently to plan and organize a day spent outdoors and filled with physical activity, fun games, and healthy competition.
Please note: March 26 is an early-release Friday. Lunch and student pick-up will not be affected by Field Day activities.
Update: All volunteer slots have been filled! Thank you all for your generosity and service! Don’t forget: Volunteers are encouraged to buy and wear a Field Day Shirt to show their Great Hearts Irving spirit alongside our scholars!
Field Day is a special day for our students, and we will need lots of help to ensure everything runs smoothly. In order to keep everyone as safe as possible and in accordance with Great Hearts Texas’s Mask Policy, all visitors will be required to wear a mask over their mouth and nose throughout their time on campus.
We are so grateful to our wonderful PSO for volunteering to provide lunch for our teachers as part of the festivities! Click here to sign up to contribute to the luncheon.
Field Day Shirts
Update: Orders for 2021 Field Day Shirts have ended, and shirts will be delivered to students’ classrooms Wednesday or Thursday of this week for them to bring home. We have a number of 2020 Field Day shirts still available for purchase for a reduced price. Contact the front desk or Mary.Pantin@greatheartsirving.org for details.
If this year’s Field Day t-shirt design looks familiar, it’s because it’s the same original Robin Hood artwork Coach Hess designed for us last year. We will be “re-issuing” the design, updated for 2021. Field Day shirts may be worn on Field Day and on any Spirit Day throughout the school year.
Shirts will be delivered to your child’s classroom prior to Field Day.
Field Day Attire Guidelines
Due to the athletic nature of Field Day, students will be allowed to wear clothing more appropriate to the day in addition to their Field Day t-shirt. There are some guidelines we will ask you to adhere to in determining what clothing is acceptable to wear to school on March 26.
We will have a number of parent volunteers on campus for Field Day to help our many games and activities run smoothly. Thank you to all who signed up to volunteer! All volunteers will be given a health screening upon arrival, and all visitors are required to wear masks at all times while they are on campus.
Student Lunch on Field Day
While hot lunch will be available to students who need it, we encourage all students to bring a sack lunch on Field Day.
Field Day is a day of fun, but rigorous, physical activity! We will have water stations set up outside, but students should be sure to bring water bottles with them to school so that they have convenient access to water whenever they need it.
Rita’s Italian Ice
Once again Rita’s Italian Ice will be joining us on Field Day. Students who would like an icy treat should bring $3 cash to school in an envelope clearly labeled with their name on or before March 26th. Your child’s classroom teacher will be able to collect and hold the money until it is needed.
Since all our teachers will be busy engaging their in-person students in a day of fun and healthy outdoor activity, there will be no live Zoom for distance learners on Friday, March 26th. Please be sure to complete all assigned work on Google Classroom so that your child can be counted present for the day.
