Field Day 2024
At Great Hearts Irving Lower School, we believe that a holistic and humane education is one that seeks to cultivate health and strength not only in the mind and heart, but also in the body. This year’s Field Day celebration is scheduled for Friday, April 12th. Coach Homann and Coach Malone have been working hard to organize a day spent outdoors and filled with physical activity, fun games, and the spirit of healthy competition.
Please note: April 12th is an early-release Friday. Lunch and student pick-up will not be affected by Field Day activities.
Volunteers Needed
Update: Our Field Day volunteer sign up is already full! Thanks to everyone planning to come to help out. If you are still interested in volunteering, we may have some additional opportunities open up. Just reach out to Mary Pantin to have your name added to the list of backups, and we will reach out if something becomes available.
We need your help! Field Day is an amazing day of fitness fun for our students, and it takes a lot of people to coordinate all the various activities. We encourage you to sign up to help run one of our many Field Day games, help students get to and from the building when they need bathroom breaks, keep our water stations filled, and more.
Please note that, in order to keep our teachers and students as safe as possible, Great Hearts Texas requires all on-campus volunteers to complete a background check prior to volunteering. Field Day volunteers who haven’t already completed a background check this school year must be sure to do so prior to Field Day. Because the $5 fee associated with these checks across all Great Hearts Texas schools represents a considerable expense, our district leaders have asked parents to help by covering the cost themselves.
Volunteers are encouraged to purchase and wear a Field Day shirt to show their Field Day spirit alongside our scholars!
Field Day Shirts
Update: Orders for 2024 Field Day shirts have now closed. A limited number of shirts in assorted sizes may remain after all orders have been delivered. These would be available on a first come, first served basis for $15. Email Mrs. Pantin to inquire about availability and sizes.
This year’s Field Day t-shirt design features the Greek messenger god Hermes, renowned for his speed and agility! Field Day shirts may be worn on Field Day and on any Spirit Day throughout the school year. All shirts must be ordered by 12pm on Friday, March 29th, so get your family’s shirts before it’s too late!
Shirts will be delivered to your child’s classroom prior to Field Day.
Field Day Attire Guidelines
Due to the athletic nature of Field Day, students will be allowed to wear clothing more appropriate to the day in addition to their Field Day t-shirt. There are some guidelines we will ask you to adhere to in determining what clothing is acceptable to wear to school on April 12th.
Student Lunch on Field Day
While lunch will be available to students who would like to purchase one, we strongly encourage all students to bring a sack lunch on Field Day.
Water Bottles
Field Day is a day of fun, but rigorous, physical activity! We will have water stations set up outside, but students should be sure to bring water bottles with them to school so that they have convenient access to water whenever they need it.
Rita’s Italian Ice
In keeping with tradition, Rita’s Italian Ice will again be joining us on Field Day. Students who would like an icy treat should bring $3 cash to school in an envelope clearly labeled with their name on or before April 12th. Your child’s classroom teacher will be able to collect and hold the money until it is needed.
Bad Weather
In the event our infamous Texas weather threatens to interfere with the day outdoors, we will communicate at least 24 hours in advance of Field Day about rescheduling. If we need to reschedule, the new date will be Friday, April 26th.
