7th Grade Dance | 6:30-8:00 pm

Tickets cost $10 and must be bought ahead of time online using a credit card or at the front desk with cash. No tickets will be sold at the door. Students should dress in Semi-Formal Attire, according to our semi-formal event dress code (see below).
The Spring Swing is an opportunity for our Middle School students to join with their peers and enjoy an evening together in camaraderie. To that end, we ask that students do not come to the dance as dates, and no guests are permitted.

Spring Swing Dress Code

The Spring Swing Dress Code follows the Semi-Formal Events Dress Code found in the Upper School Family Handbook, summarized here:
Gentlemen should wear dress slacks (no jeans or patched pocket pants), a dress shirt, tie, dress socks, and dress shoes. Hair should be trimmed and styled appropriately for the occasion.
Ladies should wear modest-length skirts or dresses (no shorter than two inches above the knee). Tops should not be strapless or spaghetti-strap, dip too low below the collar bone, or bare the midriff. Girls should wear open or closed toe dress shoes. Hair should be styled appropriately for the occasion.

6th Grade Formal Dance Cards

Another unique feature of the Spring Swing for our 6th grade students is the use of formal dance cards to help relieve the pressure of this unfamiliar social situation and to allow our students to relax and enjoy their time together more readily. As students arrive, each will receive a dance cards to wear on their wrist or keep in their pocket. Before dancing begins, students will ask each other to dance then put their name on the other’s dance card for a dance of their choice-swing, waltz, or two-step. The dancing begins when dance cards are mostly full. Each dance will be introduced with its number on the card, so students can find each other.

6th & 7th Grade Dance Lessons

Leading up to their first dance at Great Hearts Irving, our 6th and 7th Grade students are enjoying weekly dance lessons during one of their Lycaeum periods. Students are learning three classic dances, the East Coast Swing, the Waltz, and the Texas Two-Step.

8th Grade Dance Lesson Refreshers

Many of our 8th Grade students received dance lessons during the 3rd Quarter of their 6th Grade Year. To freshen up their dance moves, we are offering Dance Lesson Refreshers for all 8th grade students on Tuesday, March 1st and Thursday, March 3rd from 4:10-5:00 pm.
